Cape Ann Platform Tennis (“CAPT”) is a non-profit, 4-court, member supported platform tennis club located in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Membership in CAPT is open to the public.
The club is located on the beautiful campus of the YMCA’s Camp Spindrift. We have over 200 members across all abilities from folks completely new to the sport to some of the best players in the Greater Boston area.
We offer league play in the Greater Boston Platform tennis league, in-house leagues, clinics, “drop-in” play, and social events for our members.
Cape Ann Platform Tennis was founded in 1961 in Annisquam, a small village and part of the City of Gloucester, Massachusetts by a small group of residents familiar with the sport and looking for something to do in the long, cold winters of New England. Two wooden courts and a small hut were erected over the course of two years.
In 1991, the wooden courts were moved almost a mile from their original location to Ames Drive in Gloucester. Over the next 30 years, the club thrived, adding a 3rd court, increasing membership to over 150 members, and winning multiple league championships.
Upon the expiration of the lease at Ames Drive, the club moved to its current location on the YMCA campus at “Camp Spindrift”, a summer-camp for children.
We are thrilled to have entered into a long-term relationship with the YMCA. The setting is beautiful and set back in the woods with seasonal views of the surrounding marsh.
The club was able to build 4 brand new courts, a warming hut, and new decking. The addition of the 4th court allowed the club to increase its diverse membership to over 200 players.
Two wooden courts and a small hut keep paddle enthusiasts going through the cold New England winters.
Club moves and adds a third court with a growing membership of over 150 paddle members.
After 30 years, the club finds its new, long-term home at Camp Spindrift, building four new courts, a new deck and the new "John Egan Paddle Pavilion".
